Earlier this month we had a great visit with Heather and Dave in Colorado which included a weekend "road trip" to New Mexico. I finally got to see their "new" home, which they moved into 3 years ago (it is gorgeous); took a short drive to Archiver's in Rupert the Jeep (I don't mind riding in jeeps with no windows but my hair sure was a fright by the time we arrived at our destination!); shattered my cell phone in the Garden of the Gods; enjoyed fantastic home cooked meals and most important, I developed a new appreciation for margaritas! I swear Heather was plying me with one every time I sat down to eat! Except for a special dinner with some of Lee's old friends from his Army days at which Heather served her "special" lemonade" <lol> It was special alright! I think there must have been twice as much vodka as there was lemonade, but what the heck, Iwas on vacation and after half a glass it was all good!
Now for the travel journal for the New Mexico weekend! We worked on the basic stamping and scrapping of the journal while I was there and I am currently trying to finish it. The cover is from 7Gypsies; the antique looking pages were created by directly inking cream colored paper with a Vintage Photo Distress ink pad. The other pages were made using Graphic 45's Steampunk paper collection and Memory Box's Valise papers.
The mini-journal has pages for pictures, pages for journaling and little hidden pockets for pictures or other treasures. There's still a few things left to do, but here's some highlights from the trip and the journal...
Day 1 - This was taken at The Gorge Restaurant where we stopped for lunch before venturing on to the Taos Pueblo. The weather was perfect so we ate outside on the upper level overlooking the small town square...
Lunch was tacos and a cool libation...
These pictures tuck nicely inside one of the pocket pages...
Taos Pueblo...
Taos Pueblo is the only Native American community that is both a World Heritage Site and a National Historic Landmark.
The multi-storied adobe buildings have been continuously inhabited for over 1000 years. I was amazed with the starkness of the Pueblo. It is one of the most fascinating places I've visited.
Here's a great link to learn more about life in the Pueblo.
After spending the afternoon at the Pueblo we arrived in Sante Fe, checked into the LaFonda hotel, and then made our way to the Belltower, which is an outdoor lounge atop the LaFonda, where we enjoyed a cool drink...
while watching an amazing sunset over SanteFe...
Later in the evening we had dinner and then enjoyed a stroll through the town square.
That was the first day!! Will post more of the journal tomorrow. But first, I'm going to backtrack to show a picture of Heather and Dave that was taken at the Colorado/New Mexico border..
